Sashya is a multifaceted performing artist, creative director, choreographer, model, writer and businesswoman. She is the Founder / Artistic Director / Choreographer / Principal Performer of Rhythm Brazil.
As a creative director and choreographer, Sashya’s wealtlh of experience is extensive. Sashya was the choreographer for the Australian Olympic Team’s official “I Year To Rio” gala event presented by Channel 7 where she worked with renowned musical director Chong Lim and a host of celebrities including Todd McKenney and Rachel Beck. She was the choreographer for the float “Rhythm Brazil and Paulini” which won “Best Choreography” for the Mardi Gras 2015 amongst over 160 floats in the parade. Sashya has choreographed and directed several stage shows for major venues and events including Souths Juniors auditorium, The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project, Brazilian Carnival at The Ivy, The Brazilian Festival at Darling Harbour, CarnivArgyle, Bondiesta Latin Festival, CarnaCoogee and several events for the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Prior to launching Rhythm Brazil in 2010, Sashya was co-director, choreographer and principal performer for Australia’s premier ‘world dance’ company, Melange (2005 – 2009). During this time she choreographed and directed stage productions such as Worlds In Motion, Flava of the Caribbean, Afro Heartbeat and Bollygrooves.
Some of Sashya’s many performance credits include The X Factor with Jason Derulo, The X Factor and Sunrise on 7 with James Arthur, opening for Sergio Mendes in Hong Kong, The Festival Del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba and touring with Rhythm Brazil to Indonesia. She has also been featured on Channel 10 News, Channel 9 News, Channel 7 Sunrise, Channel 7 The Morning Show, Australia’s Got Talent and TVSN. Sashya has been featured twice on the cover of MX Magazine and on the cover of VIVA Magazine. Sashya has appeared as an extra in films such as Manny Lewis (Australian Film) and Heyy Babyy (Bollywood Film) and featured on television commercials for brands including Kia, Metamucil, Rapid Loss, the Powerbeat 360 Speaker and The Brazilian Gem Collection as well as print advertising for brands such Sielo Swimwear and Suckinfun Sunglasses.
Since 2001 Sashya has been an established tour manager and promoter and has worked with a host of renowned international artists including Pharrell Williams / N.E.R.D., Kanye West, U2 Tour, Coldplay, Mercury Rev, The Black Eyed Peas, Nas, Beck, The Roots, John Legend, De La Soul, Air, Mos Def, Snow Patrol, Jenny Lewis, Jurassic 5, Cut Chemist, Z-Trip, Scribe and Six60 to name a few. She has worked in conjunction with Australia’s leading promoters and festivals including Live Nation / Michael Coppel Presens, Frontier Touring, Chugg Entertainment, Fuzzy Touring, Slingshot Touring, V Festival Australia, Parklife Festival, Good Vibrations Festival, The Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass. She has also worked with major record labels including Virgin/EMI, Sony Music, Festival Mushroom Records and Universal Music.
As a writer with a background in Journalism, Sashya was the publisher and editor for Australia’s first national urban and electronic music magazine ‘Substance’ launched in 1996. She was also a music radio presenter and voice over artist for several years and has been interviewed for industry documentaries and featured in the Australian Financial Review for some of her standout early achievements.
Training with renowned instructors in Australia and overseas, Sashya’s dance repertoire alone includes Samba, Afro Caribbean, Salsa, Jazz, Cabaret, Afro Cuban, Rumba, West African, Afro Brazilian, Dancehall, Calypso / Soca, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue, Bachata, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Bollywood.
Having grown up in Jamaica and surrounded by vibrancy and rhythm, music and dance will always be an integral way of life for Sashya. Her upbringing, extensive travel and diverse industry experience has allowed her to be a versatile and outstanding artist on stage and on screen.
